Palais Galliera - Exhibition TISSER BRODER SUBLIMER
Weaving, Embroidering, Creating the Sublime.....The skills and techniques of fashion. / UNTIL OCTOBER 18th 2026

About This Experience
Following on from ‘A History of Fashion’ and ‘Fashion on the Move’, the Palais Galliera is presenting a new series of exhibitions devoted to the skills and techniques of fashion. Over the course of three successive exhibitions, which will each look at different aspects of the work involved in creating fashion, the magnificent collections of the Palais Galliera will once again take centre stage, offering visitors a new perspective on the history of fashion from the 18th century to the present day.
The first episode is devoted to embellishment techniques, showcasing all the methods used to adorn and decorate garments and accessories. Visitors are introduced to the wealth of ornamentation techniques – weaving, embroidery, dyeing, printing, lace and passementerie – that are an integral part of Parisian couture and which have made Paris the benchmark of exquisite craftsmanship. The various ornamentation techniques are explored through floral patterns. Flowers are a recurrent motif in the decorative arts and have also been used in an infinite variety of ways in textiles and fashion from the 18th century to the present day.
This exhibition is also an opportunity for us to shine the spotlight on some of the historic and some of the newer fashion houses, as well the craftspeople who work behind the scenes, all of whom represent the very best of these skills.
