Auguste Bartholdi. Liberty Enlightening the World. From 15 September 2026 to 31 January 2027

The museum is celebrating the 250th anniversary of US independence with the exhibition ‘Auguste Bartholdi. Liberty Enlightening the World’. The exhibition traces the career of the French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi and the creation of his monumental work: the Statue of Liberty, a gift from France to the United States to mark the centenary of American independence in 1876. Visitors can also discover the various stages involved in designing what was, at the time, the tallest statue in the world (46 metres high, 93 metres including its pedestal). Mary Cassatt: The Choice of Independence. From 6 October 2026 to 31 January 2027

The Musée d’Orsay is dedicating a major retrospective to Mary Cassatt (1844–1926) to mark the centenary of her death. Organised in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the exhibition traces the career of the American painter, who was a key figure in the Impressionist movement in France, where she lived for nearly sixty years. Nearly 80 paintings, pastels and prints, rarely exhibited until now, highlight the importance to the artist of her independence as the guiding principle of both her work and her life.

Practical information for your visit

Tickets: Book your tickets online to avoid queues, especially during peak periods. Access to the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions is via Gate C.

Opening hours : The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Consult the official website for detailed schedules and any exceptional closures.

Access : The Musée d'Orsay is easily accessible by public transport (metro, RER, bus).

Visiting tips: Allow at least 3 to 4 hours to explore the collections. Wear comfortable shoes and use the audioguide to enhance your visit.

Please note that access to temporary exhibitions is regulated according to the number of visitors. Please expect to wait at the Vigipirate checkpoint and in front of the exhibition.

Good to know for your visit

Admission to the Musée d'Orsay is free, on presentation of proof, for:

• All children under 18,

• Youths under-26s who are nationals of the European Union,

• Disabled people and their companions,

• The museum is free of charge on the first Sunday of each month, upon reservation of a time slot (no need for an access ticket or proof of identity).

The museum proposes audioguides (€5) at the entrance.

Open every day except Monday from 9:30am to 6pm (last entry at 5pm) and until 9:45pm on Thursday (last entry at 9pm).
Exceptionally closed on May 1st and December 25th.
