The Courthouse (CITE) is still in operation: History and live coverage of appeal and criminal trials

About This Experience
Your experience
The Palais de l’Île de la Cité, where our Capetian kings once lived, is vast – 28 kilometres of galleries – and serves as a reminder of a listed site steeped in history, from the
Romans 2,000 years ago right up to the French Revolution (Fouquier-Tinville’s Revolutionary Tribunal, the trials of Marie Antoinette and Robespierre, and many others…). Even today, we can still witness live, current trials taking place in the courtrooms (the Assize Court, the Court of Cassation and the Court of Appeal have indeed remained here following the High Court’s move to the new site at Porte de Clichy): we will discuss the exceptional Salle des Pas-Perdus, the Cour de Mai from where the carts carrying the condemned departed, the superb Galerie de Saint-Louis…
Following the recent ‘special criminal’ trials of 2015 (Bataclan, Charlie Hebdo…), and others to follow in the new courtroom built at the Palais de la Cité, the guide will be able to lead you through this labyrinth with the necessary authorisations for a very comprehensive 2-hour tour.
Security instructions: no sharp metal objects (scissors, nail files, knives, etc.), no containers (water bottles, glass bottles, etc.). Please bring your ID with you.
