Guided tours: Paris’s famous and secret passageways – Interkultur
Set off to explore the most beautiful covered arcades in Paris

About This Experience
Your experience
Walk in the most beautiful covered passages of Paris!
Most of the covered passages were built in the first half of the 19th century. The idea was to accommodate a wealthy clientele of
bad weather and to most often offer a set of varied shops.
Paris counted up to 150 covered passages in the 1850s. She exported the model to several other cities in France and abroad at the end of the 19th century. The work of Haussmann, which opened up neighborhoods by opening large avenues, and competition from department stores led to the disappearance of most galleries. There are about twenty left today, mainly located on the right bank. Most are beautifully restored and decorated to offer all types of amenities and shops to passersby.
The passages are a true typical element of Parisian architecture. They reinvent themselves and are constantly changing despite their apparent immobility. If some seem to waste away, they can be reborn with new points of sale completely different from the previous ones.
The tour will highlight a dozen passages, from the most famous to the least known. The history and origins of the galleries will also be highlighted, particularly around the Palais Royal.
