About This Experience

Commissioned by Bernard Arnault, American architect Frank Gehry designed la Fondation Louis Vuitton. It is erected at the outer edge of the Bois de Boulogne in the Jardin d’Acclimatation. With its architectural curves, lines and transparency, this building is a fine showcase for contemporary art.

Fondation Louis Vuitton presents a yearlong international program of events, embracing history and the diversity of linguistic and artistic creations achieved in the 20th and 21st centuries. Works from the collection, in addition to themed exhibitions or studies and multi-discipline events will be at the forefront of the Foundation’s offerings.

Exhibition: ‘CALDER, Dreaming in Balance’

To mark the centenary of Alexander Calder’s arrival in France and the fiftieth anniversary of his death, the Foundation is organising the exhibition “Calder. Dreaming in Balance”.

This exhibition traces around half a century of his creative output, from the late 1920s — with the first performances of the Calder Circus, which captivated Paris’s avant-garde circles — to the major public sculptures of the 1960s and 1970s, which profoundly transformed the concept of art in the urban space. In the galleries designed by Frank Gehry, the suspended mobiles interact with the architecture, lending the exhibition a quasi-choreographic dimension.
