About This Experience

Today, the Conciergerie is a major historic monument in Paris, offering visitors a fascinating insight into medieval architecture and prison conditions during the Revolutionary era.

 

Highlights of the visit :

Impressive Gothic architecture: Admire the majestic Salle des Gens d'Armes, one of the most beautiful medieval halls in Europe.


Remains of the revolutionary prison: Discover the dungeons, including Marie-Antoinette's reconstructed cell, and soak up the poignant atmosphere of that period.


Captivating history: Explore the evolution of the building, from royal palace to detention centre under the Revolutionary Court.


Temporary exhibitions: The Conciergerie regularly hosts enriching exhibitions on historical and cultural themes.


The visitor experience is enhanced by the Histopad, an interactive tablet that reconstructs the rooms as they were at different times, using augmented reality. This innovative technology lets you virtually explore the medieval kitchens and the Salle des Gens d'Armes in their original splendour.

 

Architecture enthusiasts will particularly appreciate the majestic Gothic vaults and imposing columns that bear witness to the skills of the builders of the time. A thematic trail dedicated to the French Revolution features period artefacts and historical

Good to know for your visit

With your Conciergerie ticket, allow between 1h and 1h30 for a complete tour of the monument. This time will allow you to discover the majestic Gothic rooms, including the impressive Salle des Gens d'Armes with its monumental vault, and the Salle des Gardes. You can also visit Marie-Antoinette's reconstructed cell and explore the period dungeons that bear witness to the revolutionary period. To enhance your visit, full documentation is available in 11 languages: French, English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Japanese, Chinese, German and Russian.

Free admission for under 18s and 18-25s EU members. The reservation of a MANDATORY date and time slot after the purchase of the ticket on our website.

 

As part of the Vigipirate program security controls are put in place at the entrance of Parisian museums and monuments. In case of a large attendance, these controls can create a waiting time which cannot be skipped.
